MATHEMATICS
Mathematics has been a driving force in the history of civilizations. It provides powerful tools for the advancement of nearly every human endeavor. Yet, the subject is frequently approached with anxiety and apprehension. The goal of this course is to remove that anxiety and to involve the student with the concepts of college mathematics so they may learn to apply these concepts successfully. To this end, mathematics is presented in historical perspective with an emphasis on problem solving - applying previously acquired knowledge to new and unfamiliar situations. Students will also learn the language and notation of mathematics and be able to present mathematical ideas by speaking, writing, drawing and demonstrating with concrete models.
